Mission The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust mission is stated in the 2006-2010 Strategic Plan: The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will lead the way in uniting public and private interests in pursuit of mutually supportive cultural and economic development objectives, with emphasis on the creation and fostering of a Cultural District serving the Pittsburgh region and on providing a home for a broad range of regional performance groups as well as its resident companies. This entails, within the Cultural District: Encouraging a diverse set of performing and visual arts and entertainment programs of quality Stimulating commercial and residential development Creating distinctive, attractive, and lively public environments Positioning the District for a high volume of visitors Engaging in comprehensive educational and outreach programs in cooperation with community organizations and interests Promoting appreciation of and access to District activities among diverse segments of the regional population
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust was incorporated in 1984 as a 501(c)(3) organization created to lead the cultural and economic development of downtown Pittsburgh. Using the arts as a catalyst, the Trust’s board and staff have pursued the vision of a dynamic Cultural District and developed a nationally recognized model that is revitalizing downtown, improving the regional economy, and enhancing Pittsburgh’s quality of life.
