Mission Statement

At Junior Achievement we believe in "possible." Each day, we work to help young people discover what’s possible in their lives. We do this by helping them connect what they learn in school with life outside the classroom. We let them know it’s possible to invest in their future, to gain a better understanding of how the world works, and to pursue their dreams. We show them that it’s possible for tomorrow to be a better day.

Description

Junior Achievement’s proven lessons in financial literacy, work and career readiness, and entrepreneurship are shown to positively impact the lives of young people. These lessons align with national and state educational standards and are delivered to millions of students across the country with the help of our education partners and volunteers from the local community. All of our programs are offered at no cost.

Research shows that JA Alumni are more likely to have a college degree, feel confident managing money, have career success, and have started a business as an adult.

I volunteer in the classroom teaching My Families program to 1st graders. The lesson plans are provided by JA. The lessons are fun and interactive and the kids really enjoy it. It's also rewarding as a volunteer. I have also participated in the annual JA Bowl a thon for the past 8 years. This is JA's main fundraiser. It's fun for everyone and helps JA continue to provide their programs in schools. We would love to have you on the JA Team.

I wanted to support this effort with the Surry County School System and Dominion and they supported this effort and the first one went so well that we are planning more on site visits! Great staff!!!

I actually got involved with JA as a volunteer, and I had a great experience volunteering with BAT and Hall of Fame. It was so great to see the community coming together to support financial literacy, and I was inspired by how involved everyone was. When I saw a job open up at JA, I jumped at the opportunity. Even now, I still volunteer in the classroom to teach children about financial literacy.

I have volunteered the past two years with the "Our Families" lesson in a first grade class. It is a rewarding experience to go into the classroom and share the enthusiam for learning. I had no prior experience in a classroom environment but the lesson plans provided by JA make it easy. Anyone can do it!

I volunteered for several of their events. There were multiple locations and timeslots available to fit my busy schedule. I think they are an excellent non-profit with a very worthy cause.

I am interested in becoming a teacher, and this was a great experience for me. I was able to go into the classroom and have a great time with the kids, and the teacher was really helpful. We even taught a few of the concepts together. I really liked that I was able to lead the discussion and then watch how the children used that information to complete the activities and play the games. I taught another class before, too, with a friend of mine. We had a really fun time working with the kids, and I would love to volunteer again.

JA had many opportunities for me to choose from. I got to pick a class that fit my work schedule, and I had a great time working with the students. The staff did a great job training me, and the materials were really easy to use. I also enjoyed participating in the Bowl-a-Thon fundraiser. Keep up the good work, JA!
