The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
We empower people and strengthen community to inspire hope and build a brighter future.
We are a vital and responsive non-for-profit organization that serves the positive development of individuals and their communities. Through leadership, social impact and social service, TrueNorth enhances social prosperity and provides quality and value to the community. TrueNorth strives to be the model for rural community-based organizations by effectively taking on today's challenge's in order to seize tomorrow's opportunities.
TrueNorth programs succeed because they are the collaborative work of caring citizens creating effective solutions to meet needs in their own communities. Community needs cannot be addressed without the efforts of an active, growing, and incredibly caring volunteer base. So much of our work wouldn't be possible without the dedication and commitment of volunteers in our communities.
I have volunteered with True North Community Services over the last four years and I have come to love being at True North, finding new ways and old to help others first. Then the benefit of friends and acquaintances from volunteering is all the more better because it becomes something bigger than yourself. Besides the most obvious programs of a food pantry staffed mostly by volunteers, True North Community Services offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities. They run the Toys for Tots program for their service area. They have a girls camp during the summer and have cleanup projects in spring and maintenance days throughout the summer. Yard and landscaping opportunities also exist. There are also other opportunities (see http://www.truenorthservices.org for an entire list). While not the only philanthropic organization around my area, it is a good opportunity to get started or add a little extra to a volunteering heart.
