The mission of AZFirst is to initiate and support, through programs, grants and scholarships, the study of science, technology and engineering by students at the middle school, high school, college and graduate school levels. Among other activities, AZFirst plans to provide financial assistance for FIRST Lego League Tournaments that involve middle school students and for US FIRST robotics competitions that involve high school students. AZFirst will also sponsor science education activities at all levels and offer financial assistance to high school, college and graduate students who intend to pursue careers as scientists and engineers. AZFirst also plans to promote and provide funding to charitable organizations that promote the appreciation and study of science, technology and engineering by students as well as other charitable organizations within the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area.
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an after school program where kids practice STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Match) in a fun way by building robots for a competition. Industry mentors volunteer to share their knowledge in areas like electrical engineering, programming, machining, team building, marketing, etc. Students on a FIRST team are eligible for over $12 million in scholarships.
