Description

The Center for Community Health and Well-Being, Inc./The Birthing Project is a grassroots, community based, non-profit agency. CCHWB/BP has always been concerned with prenatal care-- the opportunity to intervene in a positive way in the lives of high-risk children as close as possible to the beginning of their lives, the time when families are the most open to change and growth. Founded in 1988, as a volunteer service project to facilitate better birth outcomes in the African American Community by providing support to pregnant women and teens, we incorporated in 1992 as the Center for Community Health and Well-Being. The Birthing Project concept has grown into a nationally recognized model that has been replicated in over 70 communities. This sisterhood of Birthing Projects is provided with technical and practical support through The Center for Community Health and Well-Being, Inc./The Birthing Project's National Resources Center. CCHWB/BP also includes a clinic, two teen pregnancy prevention programs, a male-involvement program, free Doula training and support (Doulas provide professional labor support), childbirth education and substance abuse counseling services.
