Mission Statement
Located in New York, the Center for Court Innnovation is a unique public-private partnership that promotes new thinking about how courts can solve difficult problems like addiction, quality-of-life crime, domestic violence, and child neglect. The winner of anInnovations in American Government Award from the Ford Foundation and Harvard University, the Center combines action and reflection to spark problem-solving innovation both locally and nationally. The Center functions as the New York State Unified Court System's independent research and development arm, investigating chronic problems and field-testing new programs in response. Nationally, the Center disseminates the lessons learned from its experiements in New York. By creating problem-solving courts and advancing the national conversation about justice, the Center encourages courts to become more problem-solving and consumer oriented. Is it possible to promote greater civic involvement in justice? How should courts address the problems that fuel their caseloads? Could new stategies and new partners help improve case outcomes? These are a few of the questions that the Center for Court Innovation seeks to answer.
