Volunteers assist elders with bill paying and basic budgeting tasks during monthly home visits. 2-4 hours/ monthly. 1 year commitment is required. Initial 3 hour training, supervision, and ongoing support by Money Management Program Manager at SSES. All applicants are carefully screened, including a criminal background check [CORI]. Volunteers make weekly visits to a nursing home. They meet with residents to educate them about their rights and to advocate for their needs. Ombudsman is Swedish for "citizen advocate". An Ombudsman is asked to make a 1 year commitment. Initial training, in conjunction with the MA State Ombudsman Program, is a 3 day training. Deliver meals to home bound elders in your community. Pick up packaged meals at a local site, deliver a prescribed route. Each town we service has at least one meal site. 1 to 5 days/wk. M-F. Min. 1 day /wk commitment. Deliveries take approx. 1-2 hours, mid-mornings. Mileage reimbursement available. Civic organizations, business groups, and faith-based groups are also welcome. OUR MISSION IS THAT NO ONE GOES HUNGRY, AND WE MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO DELIVER THAT PROMISE! REQUIREMENTS: RELIABILITY, AVAILABLE ON QUICK NOTICE, GOOD DRIVING SKILLS, A "REAL TROOPER" KIND OF ATTITUDE, COMPLETION OF VOLUNTEER APPLICATION AND CORI CHECK. NOTE; OUR SERVICE AREA COVERS THE FOLLOWING TOWNS: BRAINTREE, COHASSET, HINGHAM, HOLBROOK, HULL, MILTON, NORWELL, QUINCY, RANDOLPH, SCITUATE, WEYMOUTH. DRIVERS COULD BE NEEDED TO DELIVER IN ANY ONE OF THESE COMMUNITIES.
