Mission Statement

IRC assists refugees fleeing from war, political violence, religious and ethnic persecution, and famine by providing emergency relief to refugees in 28 countries and resettling over 8,000 refugees per year through our 18 domestic offices. IRC is committed to freedom, human dignity, and self reliance, with the goal of enabling each refugee to achieve self-sufficiency in resettlement.

Description

The International Rescue Committee's Washington, DC Resettlement Office (IRC-DC) has been resettling refugees in the Washington, DC area since 1975. Our mission is to help newly arrived refugees become independant and self-sufficient by assisting them with services such as temporary financial assistance, job seach and placement, immigration services, cultural and community orientation, and referrals for English language study, health, education and social services.
