Mission Statement
The mission of Children In Crisis is to address the "best interest of the child(ren)" in custody cases where domestic violence/child abuse has occured. Children In Crisis is commited to having all children live with the non-abusive parent, therefore guaranteeing they reside in the safest and mostloving environment.
Description
Presently, at least 3.3 million children in the United States, between the ages of 3 and 17 years are at risk to exposure of domestic violence on a yearly basis. The United States Commission on Civil Rights indicated that the generational cycle of violence should be broken by focusing on the children of abusive families. In custody cases involving domestic violence this usually can be best accomplished by placing the children with the non-abusing parent for several reasons. Children In Crisis' purpose is to implement programs that will help to break the generational cycle of violence in children who have been subjected to parental violence. These programs include providing counseling to these children and qualified legal representation in custody cases to ensure the non abusive parent retains physical custody after divorce or breakup from the abuser.
