Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide young people at risk in the Denver/Boulder Metro area with experiences that impact their self-image leading to a more positive future for themselves and their communities. Our goals are to effect positive behavior change, assist in interpersonal and social skills development, and reduce illegal activity through crime prevention initiatives. We achieve these outcomes by building safe and supportive environments, challenging youth appropriately and encouraging them to take responsibility for themselves and their actions.

Description

At CFL, climbing is used as an educational tool to address issues such as building self-confidence, competence, good communication skills, good judgement and a sense of self-efficacy and empowerment. Climbing offers young people an "authentic experience" that can be a catalyst for personal growth and change. CFL emphasizes a process through which learners construct new knowledge, skills and values from direct personal experiences. Programs offer a progression of developmentally appropriate activities and can be tailored to a wide range of needs. Programs are designed to ensure that CFL clients are personally involved in, and directly responsible for, their own learning
