This is a unique opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors (BOD) of a large organization with extensive reach in providing a critical service to an underserved population. It is a high impact organization and the Board provides critical input and oversight. Marin Community Clinics (MCC) is one of the largest non-profit organizations in Marin County. MCC provides a wide range of primary and specialty healthcare services to underserved communities within Marin County. These services include primary care, oral health care, behavioral health, and specialty services. We take care of approximately 40,000 patients who have more than 200,000 visits per year at 8 major locations - 4 in San Rafael, 2 in Novato, 1 in Greenbrae, and 1 in Larkspur. MCC’s annual budget is around $75 million. MCC is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) as designated by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). HRSA is a federal agency that provides direct funding and ensures MCC meets its compliance obligations. MCC serves patients from all walks of life; however, the majority are uninsured or covered by Medi-Cal. No one is turned away, and Sliding Fee Discount Program charges are based on each individual’s ability to pay. As a member of the MCC BOD, you will be involved in many decisions and activities. These primarily include evaluating and approving policies, approving the annual operating and capital budget, reviewing clinical quality indicators and operating metrics, ensuring the clinic is compliant with all laws and regulations, assessing the needs of the target population, setting the sliding fee discount schedule for our patients, and approving the annual and three year strategic plans. The BOD is also responsible for providing input to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), reviewing CEO performance, hiring and terminating the CEO if required, and setting CEO compensation. A Director’s term is 3 years and a Director can submit for re-election every 3 years. There is a term limit of 9 years. The BOD meets on the second Monday of each month at 6 pm for approximately 2 hours. The BOD meetings are in-person, at one of our San Rafael locations. Virtual participation exceptions can be approved under certain circumstances. Board members are encouraged to serve on a Board Committee and attend special events sponsored by MCC. Board members serve without compensation. The ideal Board member will be passionate about MCC’s mission, bring strong skills and relevant experience, and have time to fully participate in all BOD activities and any relevant Board Committee meetings. Relevant functional expertise could include finance, legal, management, marketing, fundraising, or other functional expertise. Experience in non-profits or the healthcare industry can also be helpful, as can prior Board experience. To apply, please send an email and resume to board@marinclinic.org and an MCC representative will contact you to follow-up on your interest.
