Mission Statement

The mission of the CEC's Watershed Resource Center is to enhance awareness within the Santa Barbara Community about: o the importance of our watershed resources, o how these resources are impacted by human activities, o the role watershed restoration plays in improving water quality, and, o ways that our community can actively protect our creeks, wetlands, and ocean.

Description

The Community Environmental Council was founded in 1970 as a direct response to Santa Barbara's 1969 oil spill. Since then, CEC's mission has been to demonstrate how environmental education, policy innovations, and sound resource management can improve the quality of life locally, nationally, and, in some cases, internationally. CEC is recognized nationally for its policy-oriented publications, and provides information, training, and technical assistance to all levels of government, industry, and the general public on a variety of issues including land use planning, hazardous waste management, growth management, organic agriculture, and environmental decision making. CEC operates two recycling centers, a permanent collection center for household and small quantity hazardous waste, and multi-faceted environmental education programs.
