Mission Statement

The mission of Southeast Missouri Food Bank is to promote food recovery; acquire and distribute food and household products; and provide community leadership and education on issues of hunger and poverty in an effort to alleviate hunger in the region.

Our Service Area

Southeast Missouri Food Bank distributes food to a network of over 150 non-profit hunger relief agencies in sixteen counties of Southeast Missouri. These counties include Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Carter, Dunklin, Madison, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Perry, Reynolds, Ripley, Scott, Ste Genevieve, Stoddard and Wayne. Current statistics show six of these counties are the poorest in the state of Missouri. Approximately 64,000 people residing within the 9,460 square miles Southeast Missouri Food Bank serves are living below the poverty level, 35% of whom are children. Families served include senior citizens, the disabled, the homeless, victims of domestic violence and the working poor.

Who We Are

  • Founded in 1985, Southeast Missouri Food Bank provides food to charitable and disaster relief programs in Southeast Missouri.
  • Southeast Missouri Food Bank is affiliated with Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest), the nation's food bank network.
  • Member agencies include food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters for the abused and homeless, senior citizen programs, low-income children's programs and non-profit rehabilitation facilities.
  • In 2009, Southeast Missouri Food Bank distributed over 5.2 million pounds of food to hungry families in our region.
