Mission Statement

The mission of the Washington Youth Academy is to intervene in and reclaim the lives of at-risk youth to produce program graduates with the values, skills, education and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults.

Description

The Washington Youth ChalleNGe Academy is part of the National Guard Youth ChalleNGe programs. Our goal is to help youth at risk of not graduating high school meet the demands of and to succeed in today's environment.

We are a combination residential and post-residential program, in a highly structured environment. Our program consists of Eight Core-Components aimed at helping our students to gain the essential skills needed to survive in today's world, these include: Life Coping Skills, Job Skills, Health and Hygiene, Physical Fitness, Responsible Citizenship, Leadership and Followership, Service to Community and Academic Excellence.

Adult volunteer Mentors play a crucial role in helping the student build an action plan that helps guide them through the Post-Residential Phase of the program.
