Mission Statement

The Kenyan Collective Inc. was organized for charitable and educational purposes. The KCI is an independent nonprofit corporation dedicated to helping subsistence farmers grow more food by introducing them to a regenerative farming method called the Bio-Intensive Farming System and the benefits of using and saving open pollinated seeds.

Our mission is to provide a secure future of food production to subsistence farmers by building on and expanding their knowledge of organic, holistic and regenerative agricultural skills.

Description

Our activities will serve to alleviate the cycle of hunger and poverty endemic in kenya specifically the Kilifi District, of Kenya's Coast province. Here according to the African Rural Portal newsletter on 3/18/08 "fifty per cent of all children are underweight and nearly half of the population is unable to obtain sufficient food on a daily basis."

The KCI will engage in instructional activities, specifically targeted at subsistence farmers, who are mostly head of household women, between the ages of 16 and 70 for whom sussistence farming is theprimary and often only source of their livelihood. The farmers are of different tribal and religious backgrounds and live at or below poverty level.
