Mission Statement

The mission of the Team Read tutoring program is to help students improve the academic achievement of second graders in reading by pairing each participating student with a caring volunteer tutor.

Description

Shelby County Schools volunteer tutoring program, Team Read, is seeking individuals to become tutors for students in the second grade. This program matches community members with students in need of extra help at specific schools.

Volunteer tutors make learning fun and provide students with extra time on learning tasks as well as provide a positive role model. Research consistently shows that one-on-one tutoring has a significant and long-lasting impact on student achievement.

Volunteers must attend a two and one-half hour tutor tutor-training session and then commit to one hour per week. Training sessions are held at various times throughout each month. For more information about this opportunity and future training dates, please call 901-416-5732

I would like to get involve and partner up with Shelby Co. schools that are willing to help improve children reading skills. I work for the City of Memphis Library Organization and I am willing to assist any children that are struggling with reading, since this is a big problem in the African American communities.
