Mission Statement

Statement of Purpose

Psalm 90: 17 (NIV) "May the favor of the Lord rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us, yes, establish the work of our hands."

The Work of Our Hands is a non-profit retail outlet staffed by volunteers, which markets crafts made by poor artisans in developing countries and parts of the United States. Purchasing products through Alternative Trade organizations (ATOs), assures that the artisans receive a fair price for their products.

The Work of Our Hands is an ecumenical Christian mission. It links individuals from various churches and backgrounds within Pella in a common concern for the world's poor. It relies on Christian workers living and working among economically disadvantaged people helping the poor and hungry support themselves. People of many nations join together in an active venture of love and hope.

The Work of Our Hands is an educational mission. It provides information to volunteers, customers and the community about the economically disadvantaged artisans, their self-help projects, and the conditions under which they live.

Matthew 25: 40 (NRSV) "And the king will answer them, 'Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are my members of my family, you did it to me.'"
