Caminar Latino creates opportunities for Latino families to transform their lives and communities and works to change the social conditions that give rise to violence.
Description
Caminar Latino - Latinos United for Peace and Equity is a national trailblazer that carries out its mission by creating safe spaces for each family member to begin their journey towards non-violence and by centering the Latino experience into social change efforts nationally that will transform the social conditions that give rise to violence. Caminar Latino operates in Atlanta and it is Georgia’s first and only comprehensive domestic violence intervention program for Latino families. Latinos United for Peace and Equity, Caminar Latino’s national counterpart, engages in public policy, systems change, and research at the intersection of gender-based violence and Latino identity.
Our comprehensive family initiative programming includes prevention and intervention services for survivors, youth exposed to violence, and individuals who use violence.

Caminar Latino is an amazing organization. In addition to weekly group services, there are other opportunities to help like yard sales. Coming to Caminar is easily one of the highlights of my week. The program tries its best to consider your preferences in which group you volunteer with. Additionally, the staff members are incredibly supportive and make every effort to get to know the volunteers. I highly recommend volunteering at Caminar.

I have volunteered at Caminar Latino for about one year and I have truly enjoyed my experience. Through Caminar Latino, I have had the opportunity to connect closely with many youth and make a positive difference for families experiencing domestic violence. Specifically, I help facilitate a youth group and help organize social and emotional learning activities.
It was refreshing to find an organization that focuses on the strengths of its participants and that treats all staff, volunteers, and participants with respect. As a volunteer, I was invited to supervision meetings and my voice has always been valued. I am also impressed with the volunteer coordinator who is very organized and willing to go the extra mile for families and volunteers.
Finally, Caminar Latino is flexible about matching volunteers with the type of work they want to do (e.g., working with young children vs. teens). Overall, I have been very happy with my experience at Caminar Latino.
