The mission of The Pearl Foundation is to to raise funds to support broad educational, charitable, and community service purposes and performing related services such as assisting families and seniors; advancing the cultural arts; promoting economic well-being; awarding scholarships; providing educational experiences to youth; improving global conditions.
Description
The Pearl Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. chapter (Iota Lambda Omega) in Howard County, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose charter is to raise funds to support broad educational, charitable, and community service purposes and performing related services such as assisting families and seniors; advancing the cultural arts; promoting economic well-being; awarding scholarships; providing educational experiences to youth; improving global conditions. A few examples of the impact that we have had in the community:
- We award scholarships to high school seniors to further their education.
- The organization sponsored a youth business plan competition for high school students and awarded $1,500 to the top three winners, one of whom went on to compete regionally and won. He will now compete on a national level.
- We contributer to the Grassroots organization which helps Howard County residents with emergency food and shelter.
- We sponsored walks for Autism, The Kidney Fund and Susan G. Koemen.
