Mission Statement
The primary purpose of the MTC is to assist the City of Montgomery, Alabama and Montgomery County to grow and manage the urban forest. Specifically by raising funds, preserving greenspace, protecting watersheds, developing educational training in schools and for the public that emphasize the environmental, economic and social value of trees, promoting environmentally sound development, and identifying, maintaining, and preserving significant trees.
Description
MTC is open to any citizen with an interest in preserving and expanding the urban forest. The organizations meets monthly at the Alabama Forestry Commission. There is an Executive Board, Board of Directors and an Advisory Board. Our activities, in support of the above Mission Statement, involve public speaking, tree dedications, environmental community events, neighborhood events, and partnering with other organizations in support of our goals. Currently, Cypress Pond Park, in its beginning stages, is our signiture project. The vision for Montgomery is to create, maintain and enhance a healthy, sound and diverse community forest which will have trees varying in age, species and location. We belive that this healthy urban forest will contribute to the economic well-being and quality of life in the community.
