Stepping Stone provides a residential setting for women in the early stages of recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction. Our primary purpose is to assist and support working women to help themselves in sobriety by fostering an environment in which they learn to live and work successfully in community with others.
The San Francisco Women's Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc. "Stepping Stone" was founded in 1962 as the first home for alcoholic women in Northern California. It provided a transitional home for women leaving jail. In the early '70's the condition was added that residents must work and pay fees for room, board and group counseling. Fees are kept low to encourage women to save for their eventual transition back into the community.
