Mission Statement

The mission of CAN shall be:

  • provide equine-related activities and therapy in central NC to individuals with physical, emotional or developmental disabilities, alongside their typically developing peers when possible
  • educate our community about people with disabilities and equine -assisted activities
  • link people with disabilities to equine professionals
  • Engage people in volunteer work to achieve a positive result for themselves and for their community

Description

The purposes of CAN shall be:

A. Rehabilitation: A goal of CAN is to delivery equine-assisted activities (EAA) and therapy (EAT) to individuals with special needs, and their typically developing peers in an inclusive setting when possible, to enhance positive reinforcement and encouragement towards independence. This program will be called Chatham Area Network of Therapeutic Riding or CAN-TR.

B. Education: A goal of CAN is to teach about disabilities and EAA/EAT and other equine-related activities

C. Network: A goal of CAN will be to link people with disabilities seeking services with equine professionals throughout our community

D. Volunteerism: A goal of CAN will be to engage community members through volunteer activities to promote well-being in them and in their community
