Mission Statement

Urban Nature Overnights (UNO) strives to provide inner city youth a safe, hands-on experience with the natural world, to foster an appreciation of public lands and build awareness of wildlife conservation and stewardship issues. We accomplish these goals by introducing youth to urban wildlife in their neighborhoods, at the Oregon Zoo and, as participants gain skills, beyond urban boundaries.

Description

UNO, in partnership with social service agencies throughout the Portland Metro area, annually provides 300 eight to eleven-year old underserved youth an overnight camping experience. Youth receive skills and equipment to encourage future outdoor exploration. UNO is a program of the Oregon Zoo Foundation and is sponsored by the Bureau of Land Management, Oregon Zoo, and Portland Parks and Recreation.
