Description

For Better Independence Assistance Dogs, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization providing highly-trained assistance dogs to children, adults, hospitals and schools. We are currently a candidate member of Assistance Dogs International, an organization promoting standards of excellence in all areas of Assistant Dog acquisition, training and partnership. Learn more about ADI by visiting their website at www.assistancedogsinternational.org.

At FBI Assistance Dogs, our dogs are specially bred for their intelligence, friendly temperament and desire to please. They spend the first 14 months of life in loving homes, raised by volunteers trained in dog obedience and socialization. From there, our dogs attend "Doggy College" in a home setting with a Certified Dog Trainer. These expert trainers prepare the dogs for certification with the American Kennel Club's Canine Good Citizen as well as with a Therapy Dog organization.

As certification is achieved, our trainers complete a detailed temperament evaluation of each FBI Assistance Dog. Over a period of months, our dogs are assessed on their physical ability, intellect, personality, trainability, socialization skills and activity level. The process is time consuming but we are not interested in a quick placement. Instead, we strive to create life-long pairings that are in the best interest of both our clients and our dogs.

Once a dog and client have been paired together, our trainers provide comprehensive support and guidance. We work closely with the pair to foster their trust and confidence in each other. By the time the two are certified as a Service Dog team, they have forged a loving relationship that will enhance both their lives for many years to come.

But we don't stop there. After certification, we commit life-long support to each FBI Assistance Dog team. Our trainers are available for consultations, evaluations and support training should the client ever request it. We never stop helping, we never stop supporting and we never stop caring.
