Mission Statement
Inwood House believes in and values the potential and promise of all young people. We envision a time when every young person has the confidence, ability and optimism necessary to make active, responsible decisions about the future and whether to become a parent.
We are dedicated to helping teens become healthy, self -reliant adults. We help teens take charge of their lives by:
- Facilitating the development of the knowledge, skills, and self-esteem needed to set life goals, make responsible decisions, and avoid teenage pregnancy.
- Providing a continuum of care for pregnant and parenting teens in foster care that builds on their strengths and moves them toward self-sufficiency.
- Being a source of hope, guidance and opportunity.
Description
Since 1830, Inwood House has been the only organization in New York City focused primarily on comprehensively serving the needs of pregnant and parenting teens. We were among the first to teach pregnancy prevention programs in NYC schools in the 1970s.
Now, through teen pregnancy prevention education and teen family support services, we equip them to build their sense of self-worth & make responsible choices.
We provide a wide range of services to improve life-long outcomes for thousands of youth from vulnerable communities including K-12 students, pregnant and parenting teens and their children. We are people who believe all youth deserve a chance to succeed, no matter their circumstances.
We are NYC youth becoming leaders of tomorrow. We are a passionate staff of over 125 people. We are a dedicated Board of Directors. We are young professionals and volunteers of all ages committed to our community. Join us!
