Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The mission of Dismas House is to reconcile former prisoners to society and society to former prisoners through the development of a supportive community. A supportive community is characterized by 1) a family setting for students and former offenders, 2) active volunteer involvement from the broader community, and 3) a spirit of open and participative decision making.
Dismas House is a nonprofit organization that provides transitional housing and support services to men coming out of prisons and jails. Services include room and board, life skills counseling, mental health assessments and counseling, AA meetings, and recreational activities - all of which help former offenders make a more successful transition back into the community. Staff and students help former prisoners reach their goals by monitering their efforts and providing encouragement. Community volunteers are constant visitors; cooking dinner, helping with job placement, tutoring, counseling and advising and most importantly, offering friendship to Dismas House residents.
