Mission Statement

Operation CatSnip of Kentucky Inc. (OCKI) located in Shelbyville, KY was founded with the goal to effectively and safely decrease the population of feral, stray and barn cats through a humane, convenient, self-sustaining Trap-Neuter-Return-Manage (TNRM) program. OCKI was incorporated on January 30, 2009, and was granted 501(c)(3) status on June 24. A volunteer-run organization, OCKI relies on donations and grants to fulfill its mission.

Description

To help reduce the cat overpopulation, OCKI's ongoing project is to conduct spay-neuter clinics for feral, stray and barn cats by Trap-Return Neuter-Manage (TNRM). By reducing the reproductive rate of these un-owned cats through TNRM, OCKI is working to:

  • reduce feline surrender rates to our local shelters by stabilizing the population at manageable levels (some cities have realized a 40%-45% drop with TNRM programs);
  • reduce the budget stresses on the local government shelter as well as private shelters;
  • reduce the feline euthanasia rate;
  • eliminate annoying behaviors in neighborhoods associated with mating; and
  • give the cats a chance for healthier lives.
