Mission Statement

We seek to help young women develop healthy self-image through music creation and performance. Our goal is to develop a supportive community of peers and mentors, to foster the development of life skills, and encourage social change.

Description

We place electric guitars, basses, drumsticks, and microphones in the hands of young women (ages 8-17), many of whom have never had musical experience. With guidance and instruction from supportive, licensed teachers and local professional musicians, girls form bands with each other and compose and practice original songs. Girls also participate in workshops on body image, self-esteem, expressing band identity through artwork, and on music appreciation and gender issues in popular music. Programs culminate with girls performing their original songs at a showcase concert at the end of camp.

I have dealt closely with self esteem issues but have learned to overcome this. And I have been in choir for four years in high school and had a blast and with such extracurricular activities was able to pull ahead and better myself. I'd live to help this program progress.
