Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
The mission of East Side Charter School is to educate children in a safe, caring and nurturing environment so that they can excel academically and socially. We believe that all children are capable of mastering content standards and meeting social expectations when they have thorough understanding, adequate time and appropriate support. Students are viewed as individuals and every effort is made to accommodate each child’s unique gifts and talents.
East Side Charter School is located in the former Martin Luther King Elementary School, at 3000 N. Claymont Street, next to East Wilmington’s Riverside community. The facility is now known as the EastSide Learning Center in recognition of our broad range of community educational and service activities. The 2008-2009 year is our fourth in this ample building of nearly 70,000 square feet of space. This building sits on 8 acres of land and includes 29 classrooms, a full service gym, an auditorium, a cafeteria, a teachers’ lounge and an office suite. We also have 3-4 acres of athletic playing fields including brand new soccer, football fields and a baseball/softball diamond and new children’s playground area.
Grades Enrolled; Teacher Student Ratio
The school currently enrolls about 400 primary students, from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. Our typical classroom size is less than 20 students and the overall student/teacher ratio is less than 1:12 after taking into account our specialist teachers in reading, math, library/media, music, art, phys ed, and special ed. Small classes are one of the keys to our success.
