Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Arts Council to support and to expand the opportunities for diverse artistic expression and to bring the community together in celebration of our rich multi-cultural heritage. We believe this centrally located, accessible Arts Market featuring visual and performing arts will not only enhance our community, but provide needed economic development to the artists of New Orleans.

The Arts Council of New Orleans is a private, non-profit organization designated by the City of New Orleans as its official arts agency. Now in its 35th year, the Arts Council works in partnership with the City of New Orleans, community groups, local, state and national governmental agencies, and other nonprofit arts organizations to meet the arts and cultural needs of the New Orleans community through a diversity of initiatives and services.

The Arts Council serves as one of nine regional distributing agencies for Louisiana Division of the Arts funds and administers the Community Arts Grants and the Percent For Art program for the City of New Orleans.

Presented by the Arts Council of New Orleans, the Arts Market is an open-air festival of creativity held the last Saturday of every month at Palmer Park in the Carrollton Section of New Orleans. At the last stop of the St. Charles streetcar where South Claiborne and South Carrollton Avenues meet, the Arts Market of New Orleans is a free event open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Arts Market also features live music showcasing New Orleans unique musical heritage, food and beverage booths, and a Kids Tent with a performance and creative crafts.
