Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Mission: To improve the quality of life and patient independence through the delivery of compassionate care and umcompromising service.
PHILOSOPHY: Hospice affirms life and focuses on the quality of life. Hospice exists to provide support and care for persons in the last phases of incurable disease so that they might live as fully and comfortably as possible. Hospice recognizes dying as a normal process whether or not resulting from disease. Hospice neither hastens nor postpones death. Hospice exists in the hope and belief that through appropriate care and the support of a caring community sensitive to their needs, patients and families may be free to attain a degree of mental and spiritual preparation for death that is satisfactory to them.
Trained volunteers will provide supportive assistance to meet the non-medical needs of patients, caregivers and the hospice staff.
Volunteers will assist in the following areas:
- Patient Support Services -- Volunteers will provide practical assistance to patients and/or their loved ones with daily needs and supportive services that may aid in improving their quality of life. Such as: patient companionship, caregiver respite, running errands, homemaker services like housekeeping and light meal preparation, reading, playing games, taking walks, etc.
- Clerical/Administrative Services -- Volunteers work in the Hospice office helping with the daily necessities of the administration. Such as: answering phones, filing, addressing and stuffing envelopes, photocopying, etc.
- Special Services -- Volunteers donate their time and expertise for community and volunteer education, for hospice families who need their services, as well as for the administrative well-being of the hospice organization. Such as: speeches and public relations work to educate the public about hospice and to recruit other volunteers, fundraising, arts and crafts, professionals (like hair stylist to donate their time to attend to the hair needs of a patient and/or caregiver unable to leave the home or massage therapist to donate his/her time to give massages to patients and/or family members in need of relaxation).
- Veteran Volunteers -- Veteran volunteers provide direct patient support. They will be paired with a Veteran hospice patient in order to provide companionship, emotional support, socialization and respite for caregivers. This volunteer will take part in pinning ceremonies and certificate presentations for Veterans Day and other recognition events.
