Mission Statement

Mission:

Comfort Zone provides grieving children with a voice, a place and a community in which to heal, grow and lead more fulfilling lives.

CZC Vision:

Comfort Zone envisions a world where grieving children are not forgotten or left to grieve alone, and are supported by a wide community that understands and appreciates them.

Description

Comfort Zone holds free weekend camps for kids ages 7-17 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver, regardless of when the death occurred.

Comfort Zone is an 12 year-old national non-profit that holds camps year-round in CA, MA, NJ and VA. Mixed in with traditional camp fun, campers participate in age based support groups, where they can share their story and receive validation from other kids with similar experiences.

To date, CZC's camps have helped children from 43 states, Canada and the UK -- for FREE! In a traditional camp setting, the children laugh, meet other kids and work through their grief paired with a volunteer "big buddy" to gain coping tools through games, art projects and small "healing circles" led by grief counselors. Approximately 60-65 children attend each weekend camp.

Co-founder Lynne Hughes designed CZC based on her own experiences after losing both of her parents at a young age, coupled with her love for camp! Lynne authored "You are Not Alone", a book for teens, which contains numerous testimonials from CZC's campers.
