Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
El Teatro Luna is Chicago's first and only all-Latina theatre, dedicated to creating original work that honors Latina lives. We are organized for the purpose of exploring the varied experiences and cultures of Latina/Hispana women; showcasing the creative talents of Latina, Hispana, and/or Pan-Latina artists; and providing a forum for social, political, artistic, and educational outreach into our communities. Founded in 2000, Teatro Luna is dedicated to expanding the range of Latina/Hispana roles visible on the Chicago stage and beyond.
Teatro Luna was founded in 2000 with an original ensemble of 10 women from diverse Latina/Hispana backgrounds. We came together because we realized that the stories and experiences of Latina/Hispana women were undervalued and underrepresented not only on the Chicago stage, but beyond. We approach our work as theater artists from the perspective that stories matter, that our histories matter, and that our stories represent experiences beyond our individual lives that are not often heard.
Teatro Luna offers a full season in Chicago of ensemble-devised autobiographical work with new work by talented Latina artists, and tours colleges and festivals across the country to further introduce this work. We are also dedicated to providing a variety of community programming including our new Incubation Series Project, an initiative of programming designed to nurture the individual talents of Latina (and women of color) theatre artists in the Chicagoland area and develop new works for the stage Latina/o writers.
Teatro Luna also hosts the SOLO LATINASone act play series designed to incubate solo performance by diverse Latina writers. Over the past six years , participants have created over 48 new solo plays, eight of which have been produced by Teatro Luna .
Previous Teatro Luna shows include: Generic Latina, Dejame Contarte, Kita y Fernanda, The Maria Chronicles, S?LO Latinas, S-e-x-Oh!, Lunatica(s), and JARRED (A Hoodoo Comedy).
