Mission Statement

Mission:

Newark Educators Community Charter School is a rigorous K-5 learning community where learning is embedded in meaningful real world context, where children are deliberately taught to see the connections between school and the world. NECCS students will meet or exceed New Jersey State standards and be prepared to excel in the 21st century by being taught to be independent thinkers and to work productively within a diverse group of learners. At NECCS students learn to combine curiosity with appropriate application, which leads to deep understanding and the confidence to take on challenges to become who they want to be.

Description

Philosophy:

Students at Newark Educators’ Community Charter School are members of an educational community where rigorous curriculum is made engaging and accessible and where students meet high expectations by being given the support they need and deserve. NECCS provides educational experiences which address the individual needs of students and ensure that all students meet their potential.

We believe that people learn best by doing things embedded in meaningful and interesting contexts and that children need direct instruction in the content area in order to develop the skills necessary to be active participants in learning experiences. NECCS students receive direct instruction in all content areas and participate in literacy experiences (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) while being engaged in the study of their world through three in-depth social studies-based units each year.

Growth:

NECCS opened its doors in September 2009 to serve 200 students in grades K through 3. The school will add a grade each year until it reaches its full enrollment of 450 students in grades K through 8.
