Mission Statement

The Stafford Animal Shelter Mission:
The Stafford Animal Shelter prevents animal distress by caring for displaced animals, facilitating adoptions and reunions, minimizing pet overpopulation, and pioneering educational outreach.

The Stafford Animal Shelter is there for you when your pet is lost, you're ready to adopt a friend for life, or have animal behavior questions. All our pets are spayed or neutered in-house prior to adoption. We are the only nonprofit animal care facility in Park County and serve the people and pets of the greater Southwestern Montana community.

The Stafford Animal Shelter is an 'Open Door Shelter.' We accept every pet in need: abandoned or homeless, unwanted litters from unspayed and un-neutered animals, and those confiscated by control officers for cruelty. We open our doors to nearly a thousand animals each year with approximately half being reclaimed and half adopted. Every adoptable pet is spayed or neutered in-house prior to adoption. Animals are only euthanized for untreatable illness or aggression to the level that they would be a risk to the community; never for length of stay, age, breed, or treatable illness.

Our volunteers average over 100 hours each month walking dogs, brushing and playing with cats, helping at fundraising and public relations events, and fostering orphan kitten or puppies who need to be bottle fed. We are always looking for new volunteers. If you are interested, please call Kris, our Development Coordinator, at 406- 222-1313 or email shelterbark@imt.net

Voted the best nonprofit in Livingston, awarded the best workstation of the year by RSVP, the Shelter is a flexible, supportive place to volunteer where the love you receive from the animals is immediate, tangible and unconditional. Where else do you get love like that?!
