Appleton Farms has a thriving Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, providing certified organic vegetables and pastured meat and poultry to community members and families on the North Shore. The Appleton Farms CSA team is looking for a team of volunteers to assist with cleaning and stocking to support the program this summer! Volunteers will help with tasks such as washing crates, hosing down the floor, sweeping, and restocking produce. Our ideal candidate is not afraid to do some heavy lifting, and work that can be messy during busy pickup times. This is not a direct customer interaction role, but shifts take place during member pick up times. Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following): Assist CSA Staff with washing crates, hosing down the floor, sweeping, restocking produce and other duties as needed Adhere to The Trustees safety protocols Log volunteer hours online in Volunteer Connect Qualifications: Must be able to lift 40+ lbs, bend repeatedly, and do work near the ground Must be able to work in and out of coolers in a non-temperature controlled barn for the length of a shift during the summer Must wear close toed shoes

The Trustees is looking for outgoing and engaging volunteers to join us in welcoming visitors to the diverse gardens and historic house at Long Hill in Beverly, MA. As a Property Ambassador, volunteers will be positioned at the entrance of the property in the Gatehouse sharing information about the property, answering general questions about events, programs and workshops while providing overall wayfinding information. The Trustees is looking for individuals with a background in carpentry interested in undertaking building projects at The Bradley Estate. Individuals should have a basic knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures. The majority of this work will be carried out individually with several opportunities to work on larger projects and assist or lead Trustees staff or volunteers. Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following): Construct/repair Trustees structures/property e.g. replace sliding doors, exterior and interior painting, exterior doors, fences, footbridges, picnic tables, nest boxes, etc. Perform structural repairs/renovations e.g. trim, doors, office and bathroom renovation, outbuildings Keep workshop clean and organized. Tuning up or repairing power and hand tools Adhere to The Trustees safety protocols Log volunteer hours in a timely fashion Qualifications: Knowledge of power/hand tools and an understanding of safety Ability to work with tools, lumber, and materials Ability to organize assigned tasks, for completion alone or with help Knowledge of building structures including but not limited to ceilings, windows, frames, roofs, as well as independent structures (chicken coops) is necessary Some experience and ability in reading as well as drawing plans Ability to work alone and as a part of a team Solid communication skills to update staff on project status and needs Please note: a background check is required for this role

Appleton Farms, a 1,000+ acre working farm and farm-based education center, was established in 1638 by the Appleton Family and gifted to The Trustees in 1998. The farm has several raised beds located behind the property’s historic Old House that serve as the learning garden for summer camp, children’s programs, and culinary workshops. If your passion is gardening, and you have a few hours a week to spare, we would enjoy sharing this amazing property with you! This position would be perfect for a creative individual who has a flexible schedule, enjoys the outdoors, and has a basic knowledge of gardening. Our staff will work with volunteers to determine gardening needs and priorities. The ideal candidate should be equally at home working independently as well as on a team. Reports to: Education Manager and Stewardship Staff Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following): Working with staff to assess gardening needs Preparing garden spaces through tilling, raking, edging, mulching, and adding compost/soil Planting and/or transplanting vegetable starts, herbs, and other plants/trees, as well as maintaining existing beds Maintaining communication with education staff During off season, help decorate planters with winter greenery Adhere to The Trustees safety and COVID-19 protocols Log volunteer hours weekly Qualifications: Have excellent communication skills Have reliable transportation to the Farm An eagerness to participate in maintaining the Farm Able to use hand tools Able to follow instructions and work in a team Dress in appropriate clothes and footwear Ability to stand for extended periods of time and ability to bend Ability to walk on a variety of surfaces including grass or uneven surfaces Please note: a background check is required for this role

Rolling grasslands, grazing livestock, stone walls, vegetable crops, and historic farm buildings comprise this 1,000-acre pastoral landscape, offering a rare glimpse into New England’s agricultural past. Appleton Farms is currently seeking volunteers to assist in the care of this unique and beautiful property! As a Property Steward, you’ll have the opportunity to support and work alongside staff and other volunteers, learning valuable and transferable skills while being part of an amazing community. Reports to: Stewardship Staff Responsibilities (may include but are not limited to the following): Small maintenance and building projects Property clean up including brush clearing, raking, weeding, debris removal, wood stacking Prune back brush from the fence line with pruners Fence maintenance and repair Painting Weed whip fence lines Report major problems to Staff Physical stamina to walk the fence line of a 133 acre pasture (approximately 5 miles of fencing but not all in one day) Willingness to learn Comfortable working independently Good communication skills by email or text Log volunteer hours Qualifications: Have excellent communication skills Ability to work in all weather conditions Have reliable transpiration to the property Must be able to perform vigorous work outside, ability to use hand tools and have basic knowledge of carpentry Must be comfortable taking on a project and working on it independently as well as working with staff and groups Must enjoy walking on the property; be conservation-minded, and willing to help maintain the property Must be able to perform physical work; lifting, carrying up 25lbs.
