Mission Statement
The mission of the Washington Reading Corps is to improve reading abilities of K-6 students across Washington State. This is achieved through research-based tutoring of struggling readers and effective collaborations among schools, families, community members, National Service, businesses and state partners
At Sanislo, we create a caring, enthusiastic environment where eager, young minds are nurtured to their full potential. We accomplish this through small, challenging learning groups and a staff of devoted, inspired teachers committed to each student's success. This is what Sanislo is built upon.
Description
At Sanislo, three members of the Washington Reading Corps (WRC) work to improve the literacy skills of students through tutoring and mentorship. Another key role we have is cultivating and maintaining sustainable programs at Sanislo. The involvement and support of the community is essential to creating such programs. Volunteers at Sanislo can become one-on-one reading tutors or do other things to foster the learning of Sanislo's students, such as providing in-classroom support and volunteering during after-school events or after-school programs.
