To use youth athletics as a tool to build bridges between the citizens and the corporate community through the application of youth and family based activities which build character, common sense, and awareness of personal health and wellness.

Description

The Atlanta Youth Fitness Alliance is program designed on the principle of collaboration among community (residents and organizations) and youth serving organizations (health, recreation, education), and other interested organizations. The purpose of the Alliance is to engage youth from the target communities in activities that will emphasize character development, wellness and nutrition, and athletic training and competition.

The initial goal of the Atlanta Youth Fitness Alliance is to build to a steady participation of between 100 and 120 youth in the 5 th through 8 th grades from the Vine City, English Avenue, and Washington Park communities. It is anticipated that throughout the initial two years of the program that up to 300 youth will be engaged at one time or another in the program's activities.
