The goal of the Si Se Puede! Learning Center is to empower youth, teens and families so that they can make better choices, develop a positive outlook towards learning and achieve success in life. To reach our goal we have to focus on our objective, which is to provide a safe, caring, interactive and FUN environment that supports and encourages learning.
The mission of the National Farm Workers Service Center, Inc Housing and Economic Development Fund is tho create and maintain healthy communities by providing quality affordable housing and social facilities, so people can live, socialize, and gather and learn in a positive environment.
The Si Se Puede! Learning Center is an educational after-school and summer program implemented by the Community Services division of the National Farm Workers Service Center to serve students that reside in and around affordable housing units across 4 states. Here in Bakersfield the center is located in the Govea Gardens Apartment Complex and serves approximately 30 children from kindergarten to 5 th grade.
During the school year, the program operates Monday - Thursday from 3:00-6:00 pm and Fridays from 3:00-4:30pm. With the exception of Fridays, we spend the first hour of every day assisting students with their homework and then engage them in literacy, math, art, science and technology activities. On Fridays we lead team-building and character-building activities as well as recognize the students' efforts and participation for the week with awards and prizes.
