Mission Statement

Drive Out Hunger provides advocacy, education, financial and material assistance to community food shelves, shelters and kitchens providing food and meals to the hungry of Minnesota.

Description

Drive Out Hunger has formed to address the issues facing community food shelves today. Increasing numbers of families and individuals are turning to food shelves in difficult economic times, stretching thin the resources at hand and causing food shelves to make difficult choices on services they can deliver.

Drive out Hunger through it's fundraising efforts can supplement the fundraising efforts of food shelves, shelters and kitchens, giving them the ability to purchase needed product without cutting services that may already exist.

In addition, by holding a pool of reserve capital, and establishing a working relationship with local contractors, Drive Out Hunger will be able to provide both the financial and materials for needed repairs and/or remodeling of facilities, purchase and instalation of equipment such as walk in coolers and freezers, expansion and/or repair/reserfacing of parking lots, etc.

Drive Out Hunger's main fundraising tool is golf, specifically the DOH Long Drive Championship which is open to people aged 16 and older. Starting at the local level and ending with a state championship, competetors pit their skills against the course for length and accuracy.

This event is organized using standards developed by the Long Drivers of America, Ltd. host and organizer of the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship held each year in Mesquite Nevada.
