Description
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank meets an important community need.
In 1985, a small group of local concerned citizens established the West Texas Food Bank to address the critical issue of hunger in the west Texas area. Headquartered in Odessa, with a satellite office in El Paso, they set out to secure donations of surplus foods and grocery products for distribution through a network of chartiable organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in 22 west Texas counties.
In late 2011, with the help of the West Texas Food Bank, a group of dedicated El Paso volunteers determined that El Paso and the two adjoining counties of Hudspeth and Culberson would be better served by a new, stand-alone Food Bank dedicated to these three counties.
El Pasoans Fighting Hunger was thus establised as a separate 501(c)(3) corporation to serve as a clearinghouse to solicit, store, inspect, repack and distribute surplus and donated food to a network of agency partners and address the high rates of hunger, poor nutrition, and related health problems of children and adults in El Paso, Hudspeth and Culberson counties.
