Mission Statement

To combat the hunger crisis in our region by strategically procuring and distributing nutritious food through community partners... because no one should go hungry.

Description

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank meets an important community need.

In 1985, a small group of local concerned citizens established the West Texas Food Bank to address the critical issue of hunger in the west Texas area. Headquartered in Odessa, with a satellite office in El Paso, they set out to secure donations of surplus foods and grocery products for distribution through a network of chartiable organizations dedicated to feeding the hungry in 22 west Texas counties.

In late 2011, with the help of the West Texas Food Bank, a group of dedicated El Paso volunteers determined that El Paso and the two adjoining counties of Hudspeth and Culberson would be better served by a new, stand-alone Food Bank dedicated to these three counties.

El Pasoans Fighting Hunger was thus establised as a separate 501(c)(3) corporation to serve as a clearinghouse to solicit, store, inspect, repack and distribute surplus and donated food to a network of agency partners and address the high rates of hunger, poor nutrition, and related health problems of children and adults in El Paso, Hudspeth and Culberson counties.

They're very friendly and understanding here. There's a medium sized staff that helps support everything and it's well organized. Plus, they keep water and food for the volunteers in the back sometimes and they have areas for you to keep your food if you prefer to keep your own. They have tons of food, clothes and everything else coming through, and appreciate all the help they can get.

I didn't know anybody, but in that short time, I met people and had a great time doing something for others, it was such an exilerating experience!
