Mission Statement

Grounds for Health's goal is to create sustainable and effective cancer prevention programs, with a focus on the early detection and treatment of cervical cancer, a leading cause of death among women in developing countries.

Our mission is to bring effective cervical cancer screening and treatment to women in coffee-growing communities. We currently work in Mexico, Central America and Tanzania. We use an innovative, affordable and community-appropriate method called the Single Visit Screen & Treat Approach, which has been endorsed by the World Health Organization.

Description

Our campaigns invite both medical and non-medical volunteers. Nurses, physician assistants and doctors take samples, see patients for their healthcare needs and provide on-site training to our in-country colleagues. Pathologists and cytologists process the samples and make the diagnosis. Community educators work with local health educators to provide information and outreach in the communities we serve. We also invite a few enthusiastic supporters without medical or technical skills willing to work long hours doing whatever support tasks need doing. Teamwork is key, with everyone pitching in to help where needed.
