Description
Volunteer Services for Children currently runs two very unique and diverse services for the children of New York. The Learning Program partners volunteers with children who have been designated as reading below grade level. Once a week in the evening, volunteers come to various community centers throughout NYC to work one-to-one with children ranging in age from six to sixteen. The Saturday Outings Program works with children currently residing in temporary foster care facilities. Each week, volunteers and children participate in cultural and educational activities in New York. Recent excursions have included trips to the American Museum of Natural History, Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum and a hiking trip in Bear Mountain State Park.
