Who We Are
City View Academy is a private, independent, non-sectarian school that seeks to provide a strong academic education to the children of parents who live and/or work in downtown Atlanta. Our mission is to inspire motivated lifelong learners to express their creativity, intelligence and values through a balanced, inquiry-based curriculum that will prepare them for success in our progressive and diverse society.
Our Values and Philosophy
City View Academy of Atlanta believes children need to learn how to think independently, solve problems, make decisions, communicate effectively and appreciate the opinions of others. We affirm the following principles as key to these goals:
Description
Inclusion. No two students are alike. Our teachers seek to honor the differences presented by individual learning styles. Teachers reach out to students using a variety of teaching methods to insure every child is able to succeed.
We expect and encourage a diverse environment of varying races and ethnic groups, family composition, and economic backgrounds. Our students are taught that our differences make us all stronger.
Exploration. For students to truly understand how the concepts taught in school relate to the larger community, they must be encouraged to test those concepts outside the classroom. We support drawing in resources from outside the classroom to accomplish this goal, and we strongly involve our students in learning opportunities throughout the city - parks, museums, events, exhibits, libraries.
We also expect our students to delve deeply into their interests and to continue to develop a curiosity about their world.
Involvement. Just as we expect strong parental involvement, we expect our students to be involved in their community. We offer opportunities for the entire family to give back to the school and the city through civic engagement.
Teachers encourage parental involvement in the learning process and work with the parents in partnership.
Roles and Responsibilities
The core values of the City View Academy are Respect, Responsibility and Achievement. The School believes that parent participation is vital for the school’s success. City View Academy promotes strong parental involvement and includes parents as partners in education. For this reason, students, their families and City View Academy staff are expected to contribute to the success of our learning community through support of our annual fund and volunteerism.
