Mission Statement

Our agency was started by a group of individuals who were working with the homeless through a program at a local church. When we were unable to continue the programs at the church, we incorporated and the people working in the programs became our first Board of Directors. The most urgent problem of the homeless, as we saw it, was they had nowhere to go in the day time. They had to stay under bridges, overpasses, or try to stay in public buildings where they were not welcome. This left them outside in all types of in climate weather with none of the basic human needs available, such as, a bathroom or even a drink of water. Therefore the first program we started was a homeless day shelter which opened in May 2002.

Mercy Ministries strives to provide day-time care for those who do have any place to go during the daytime, provide food for those without, resources for those without direction. Mercy Ministries uses its resources to provide assistance with general well-being of the residents of Richmond County, and does not limit itself except to that which only God can provide. Community assistance is provided to the young and old alike and will not turn away any person in need regardless of past history or present trouble, with the understanding that they have a will to improve the lives of those around them along with their own.
