Mission Statement

The Mission of Kentucky Legal Aid is to assist and enable low income families, elderly, disabled and other vulnerable individuals in South Central and Western Kentucky to resolve legal problems that are barriers to self-sufficiency, and to provide these individuals an opportunity for an improved quality of life.

Description

Kentucky Legal Aid has five separate programs: Legal Assistance, Benefits Counseling, Lawyers Care, Long Term Care Ombudsman and Housing Counseling.

The Legal Assistance program provides low income clients with legal aid in a variety of civil legal matters including domestic violence, child support, custody, employment, and consumer fraud.

The Benefits Counseling Program assists elderly and disabled persons apply for and obtain public benefits such as Medicaid, Medicare, SSI and SNAP. Benefits Counselors also provide advice on public benefit programs.

The Lawyers Care program promotes and coordinates the volunteer efforts of private attorneys who donate their time and expertise to help low income clients.

The Long Term Care Ombudsman program provides information and assistance to residents of long term care facilities.

The Housing Counseling program provides assistance with housing issues including mortgage problems, foreclosures, predatory lending and evictions.
