Mission Statement
Nepantla Arts, born in 2008, is founded on and inspired by traditional Mexihca ("Aztec") arts, dance, music, and oral tradition. Nepantla, Nahuatl for "something in between," signifies the space created by the fusion of two worlds: a place of creativity, exploration, and sudden transformation.
Nepantla Arts supports its principal project, the Zenteotl Project, and accompanying multi-media performance, Zenteotl First Corn Energy. The Zenteotl Project is the developing community involvement component to the performance that currently engages Central Minneapolis youth and their families in gardening, Mexihca dance, and art activities at Sabathani Community Center Garden. The performance, to premiere Fall 2011, will highlight the Mexihca creation story of corn, and corn's relevance to our future survival.
Nepantla Arts is sponsored by Springboard for the Arts.
Description
The Zenteotl Project currently seeks highly motivated, earth and people-friendly activists interested in engaging with and learning from community members on traditional forms of gardening; working with youth; and assisting with coordination of fundraising efforts; garden maintenance; and art and Mexihca dance activities.
