Until now, we have hosted trips to Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire to familiarize people with the problems of the cocoa farmers. See Http://www.sweetearthchocolates.blogspot.com to learn more about the trips. Last year, we dug a well in Broguhe and donated scales to Djahakro, Abekro, and Broguhe, all located in Cote d'Ivoire. We also brought dryness meters to three villages: Ebekawopa, Zereguhe, and Broguhe.
We want to involve chocolate makers in our mission and also university students. Our central question is, if cocoa farmers can't make a sustainable living on rich ground and with plenty of water, where can Third World farmers actually make a living?
We are going to splinter off a part of PH&F and call it the Global Cocoa Project. We want to expand our mission to be more inclusive of cocoa farmers everywhere, and we want to involve chocolate makers, who use cocoa from all over the world.
If you are a university student, cocoa/chocolate involves the fields of botany, history, anthropology, food science, political science, international development, environmental science, horticulture, permaculture, and nutrition.
We are planning to build a cocoa study center in Ebekawopa, Ghana. This is a joint project with the Architecture Department at Cal Poly. We were given 3 acres of land in Ebekawopa.
