Mission Statement

Grand Avenue Club's Mission is to provide people who have experienced mental illness with all the ingredients for a satisfying life-opportunities to get ready for work, paid employment, education, housing, as well as recreational and cultural opportunities.

(bus info & ADA accessibility below)

Program participation are "members," not clients or consumers. When people join the program, they are offered immediate membership in a community that needs and values their talents, interests, and abilities. Members and staff run the program together as peers and partners. The work that members do at the clubhouse increases their confidence and purposefulness and whets their appetites for paid employment.

Despite the recreational connotations of the word "clubhouse," Grand Avenue Club, like all "Standards-based" clubhouse, is a serious work-centered place, a set of opportunities, and a vital sensibility that transforms the lives of those who live it. Grand Avenue Club offers respect, hope and opportunity to hundreds of people. GAC is unique because members are involved in every aspect of program design and implementation. GAC is based on the International Standards for Clubhouse Programs, 35 principles that are a bill of rights for members, a code of ethics for staff, and a blueprint for program design. GAC is a Charter Member of the International Center for Clubhouse Development (ICCD) which is located in New York City. ICCD is the headquarters for similar communities throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia and the Far East.

GAC is ADA accessible, entrance is at 604 North Water St.

GAC is located on or near the following Milwaukee County Bus lines: 10,11,12,13,15,18,19,23,30,31,33,80
