Mission Statement

To help the people of interested countries in meeting their need for trained men and women. To help promote a better understanding of Americans on the part of the peoples served. To help promote a better understanding of other peoples on the part of Americans.

Description

The Peace Corps sends volunteers overseas to contribute to the social, economic, and human development of interested developing countries; to promote a better understanding of Americans among the people whom Volunteers serve; and to strengthen Americans' understanding about other people, cultures and countries. The programs are 24 months long with an initial 3 months of training. All expenses are covered for our volunteers. Volunteers also receive full medical and dental coverage and a $6,075 readjustment allowance at the end of service. When President John F. Kennedy became President in 1961, he issued a call to service to Americans with these words: "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." He manifested this vision by establishing the Peace Corps to promote world peace and friendship
